Blade Runner
Do androids dream of electric sheep? Phillip K. Dick explained it well in his book that the movie Blade Runner is based upon. Is it similar to the book? In a word, No. The book is very different from Ridley Scott's vision of the future with a film noir touch to everything. We get Harrison Ford, Rudger Hauer, and Sean Young. This vision of the future brought many sci-fi fans together to enjoy an experience that many hadn't seen and probably wouldn't be repeated. The score is very different from other peices of music. It definately has an other worldly feel. Also it has the classic detective feel as well. Things are very different in this movie but also people keep hoping that there will be a sequel. I enjoy this score for what it is and Vangelis does a great job.

Conan The Barbarian
The Cimereon comes to you from the dark hills of his country, he seeks to ravage and be a conquerer! He goes up against James Earl Jones, He goes on a quest to defeat an enemy. The score is done by Basil Poledouris who is well known for scores like The Hunt for Red October, and Cherry 2000, and many others.. This score is full of epic fantasy themes, it gives us Fantasy in a way that we don't get now. I really like this score. It reminds me of Red Sonja as well. Anyway I don't have much more to talk about except that the real plot is basic revenge. A vengeful barbarian warrior sets off to avenge his tribe and his parents whom were slain by an evil sorcerer and his warriors when he was a boy.

The Dark Crystal
This movie is about
- Jen (Stephen Garlick), raised by the noble race called the Mystics, has been told that he is the last survivor of his own race, the Gelflings. He sets out to try to find a shard of the dark crystal, a powerful gem that once provided balance to the universe. After the crystal was broken, the evil Skeksis used sinister means to gain control. Jen believes that he can repair the dark crystal and bring peace back to the world, if he can only find the remaining shard. Its an epic Fantasy with Jim Hensen's muppetry at its finest. It can be really creepy, but it never was meant to be kid friendly. Jim Hensen went for a dark feel to the movie and stayed with it til the very end, when you get the happy ending.
The score is done by Trevor Jones and its really a good score, great fantasy feel and very sweeping movements. I really enjoyed this score.
You can't get the soundtrack on ITunes but I'm sure you can find it from soundtrack.net. Anyway here are some clips I enjoyed from the film. I hope you like them as well.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is a movie about one man's quest for revenge. Kirk settled Khan and his crew from the Botany Bay ship on a planet some fifteen years before during the five year mission and Now Khan has escaped that hellish planet in which he meets Chekov and his Captain whom he puts under mind control. The score is done by James Horner and is fantastical, beautiful and sweeping. The music takes you on the journey, seeing the evil creatures that Khan uses to take over minds, to see the dead bodies on the science station and the ultimate return of the Enterprise. The most saddest moment in the film though is when Spock sacrifices himself for the good of the many.
His quote "The good of the many outway the good of the few, or the one". This is one of my favorite scores! Its music continues to envoke a spirit of adventure in films that isn't there right now. I hope someday that people realize we need to inspire the imagination once again with movies or we lose all enjoyment out of the movie experience.

E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
E.T. The Extra Terrestrial is a film about an alien who is stranded on Earth after his kind accedentily left him behind. What moves forward is kids learning about him, having adventures and glowing fingers. The military get involved and everything gets dangerous for awhile but then in the end E.T.'s alien family come back for him. This movie was alright, but the soundtrack was amazing, once again John Williams blows us away with a story in music with the sweeping score that carries us through the film.

The Road Warrior
The Road Warrior, some could say the Best Mad Max film of the trilogy. Also you could say a much better soundtrack than the first film. Once again Brian May steps up to bring this world of crazy cars, insane drivers and maniac villians to life! We once again find Max helping a small community with plenty of gas against a band of bandits. Thus the weird outfits and postapocalyptic clothes.
The music soars higher than the first film and the action is more intense. I really like this soundtrack and have added it.

The Great Muppet Caper
The Skies are high, the muppets are many and there is a jewel heist in progress. Kermit, Gonzo and Fozzie embark on yet one more crazy adventure where they work for a newspaper and are trying to get a story on a Jewel Heist that happened. They come across Miss Piggy who works for the woman who had her jewels stolen. Hillarity and fun make the movie watchable. The soundtrack is great for Muppets sing many of the songs. All in all the movie is great for its mastery of puppetry and fun. Jim Hensen had done it again when he was alive.

Escape From New York
The Name is Snake, Snake Pliskin. Yes Kurt Russel rescueing the President and his daughter from New York City in a Postapocalyptic Future of 1997. Wow that was awhile ago. This movie came out in 1981 and still is considered a great film even for its lower quality. The music for the film is done by John Carpenter. The themes are very synth oriented, and it continues with the sequel many years later. I find it very entertaining and the music has a certain place. Also little facts help us all. Snake Pliskin was the model for Solid Snake in the game Metal Gear Solid. I thought that was a cool fact.
Here is the Amazon link for the soundtrack.

Clash of the Titans
Last week I mentioned to share Time Bandits. There is no soundtrack available for that movie. Sorry. This week we have the Original Clash of the Titans. Epic Fantasy with Greek Mythology shared with the public. Ray Harryhousen shared in its vision with his unique style of animation as well. Its about Perseus who gets washed up on a shore with his mother and is raised on an island away from the Dangers of the world. He goes on an epic quest to destroy the Krakken and save his beloved Andromeda. Monsters, Mayhem, and Fantastic visions that we don't see today. The score is done by Laurence Rosenthal, he sets a very fantasy tone to the film and gives us excitement and danger while giving us love themes and darkness in with it.
Here is the Amazon link to the Soundtrack
There isn't a link to the soundtrack on ITunes, only the theme and it isn't by Laurence Rosenthal. You will find the remake soundtrack on there though. That is for a later time though.

For Your Eyes Only
James Bond in another world changing adventure of espionage and gadgets. Basically James is sent to hunt down an encryption device and prevent people from using it against the world. Not much in detail but the music is of course always famous for a James Bond film. The music is done by Bill Conti and the Theme is done by Sheena Eston.

Raiders of the Lost Ark
With a whip and a gun, Indiana Jones has captured our hearts and thrilled us with adventure. Raiders of the Lost Ark is just that. An adventure with Harrison Ford who embodies Indiana Jones perfectly. This is a story about the search for the Lost ark of the covenant. Indiana isn't the only one searching for it though. Along the way he encounters Nazi's who want to rule the world! The score is really well arranged and gives us the classic themes we love about Indiana Jones. Steven Speilburg directed this gem of a movie and gives us more to look forward to. John Williams did the score for the film and captures our imagination. Can you tell i love this score?
Here is the link to Amazon where you can buy the soundtrack.
Unfortunately you can't get the score through ITunes, they don't have the full soundtrack. Yet through Amazon you can get the digital download as well. Funny how that works.

Superman II
Its a bird, no its a plane, no its Superman! Superman is back and is facing off against three villians from his past. General Zod, and his henchmen who are trying to take over the Earth. The soundtrack was done by Ken Thorne and roles reprised by Christopher Reeves, Margaret Kitter, Gene Hackman and a new addition Terrance Stamp. Yes it makes for a fun action packed film with Superman finally defeating his foes in the fortress of solitude...Away from people! Yes Superman doesn't involve other people in his battles. He doesn't want people to get hurt.
Here is the Amazon link for the vinyl record of the soundtrack.

Flash Gordon, only he can save us from Ming the Merciless! Yes its a movie about a football star, Flash Gordon played by Sam J Jones and he along with Doctor Hans Zarkov and Dale the beauty they embark on a journey of Adventure! The music of the whole soundtrack is actually composed by Queen. It was a great feat for them, doing a instrumental soundtrack and then weaving the theme throughout the movie. I enjoyed it and I'm sure you can too.

The Empire Strikes Back
Dark Times are here in the Universe, a new power has arrived, Darth Vader, and he is on a quest to find Luke Skywalker! Yes with these words Empire Strikes Back gives us chills. I love this movie! This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The score is amazing! John Williams brings everything out with themes of the Empire and Yoda. Even giving us Leia's theme is true. This movie picks up on Hoth where the rebels are fighting to stay alive and not noticed by the Empire. The Battle of Hoth begins, Space Battles, a flight to freedom. These are things I love about the film. The score gives us great music that is still timeless. Well you have heard enough from me, now I can give something back to you.

Phantasm (1979)
Phantasm, This was about a boy who had lost his parents and always had a problem with trusting the mortuary. Especially the Tall Man that ran it. His friend Reggie believes him and they realize that The Tall Man has a supernatural other worldly motive behind everything. Directed by Don Coscarelli and the score was done by Fred Myrow & Malcolm Seagrave, who give us the iconic themes to this film.
You can find the soundtrack on Amazon, Its just that it is over $100 for the price.

Mad Max
Mad Max, Mel Gibson, yes this movie was truly game changing for the movie world. It started a franchise that led to what we have now. Mad Max Fury Road. Well, Mad Max is a sad story about a cop in a post apocalyptic future that finds that his wife and son are murdered by a gang of outlaws. He goes on a revenge quest against them to avenge his wife. Its sad really but also really a fun exciting film. The score is interesting. It reminded me what the 70's really were back then, dark and gritty with an edge. The score is by Brian May and he really captures the feel of the film in his score.
