Phantasm (1979)

Phantasm, This was about a boy who had lost his parents and always had a problem with trusting the mortuary. Especially the Tall Man that ran it. His friend Reggie believes him and they realize that The Tall Man has a supernatural other worldly motive behind everything. Directed by Don Coscarelli and the score was done by Fred Myrow & Malcolm Seagrave, who give us the iconic themes to this film.

You can find the soundtrack on Amazon, Its just that it is over $100 for the price.

The best link I can give you is on ITunes and it's just the theme.

Here are some clips though from Youtube and you can appreciate a true sci-fi horror fantasy film

Mad Max

Mad Max, Mel Gibson, yes this movie was truly game changing for the movie world. It started a franchise that led to what we have now. Mad Max Fury Road. Well, Mad Max is a sad story about a cop in a post apocalyptic future that finds that his wife and son are murdered by a gang of outlaws. He goes on a revenge quest against them to avenge his wife. Its sad really but also really a fun exciting film. The score is interesting. It reminded me what the 70's really were back then, dark and gritty with an edge. The score is by Brian May and he really captures the feel of the film in his score.

The Black Hole

The Black Hole, a Disney movie that wasn't very Disney. It was during the dark time of the 70's and Disney wanted to try Science Fiction. Yes this was a great movie with robots, crazy, mad scientist, and Earnest Borgnine. Lasers, cowboys in space, terror and mayhem. This soundtrack truly was unique for the sweeping score and the ominus focus on the music. There was a feeling of what is around the next corner when listening to the music. It was very well done and I really like it. I even own the soundtrack.

Here is the Amazon link to The Black Hole soundtrack

There is no link for ITunes for The Black Hole but I of course have links to some of the wonderful music!

Moonraker

Moonraker, Ah another James Bond film about James Bond (Roger Moore) finding a missing plane called Moonraker. Little does he realize that the villians have constructed a space station. He gets pursued by a fan favorite Jaws. He also is accompanied by the beautiful Holly Goodhead (Lois Chiles) to get the plane found, get the CIA up to the station and have space battles while he confronts the Bad Guy Hugo Drax. Anyway guns, gadgets, women and Jaws all in the same film. Its fun and entertaining. The soundtrack is also really great!

Here are some Youtube clips from the film for the John Barry score.

this was the longest song in the film

The Muppet Movie

The Muppet Movie.
You get muppets, Jim Hensen, and a ton of cameo appearances.  Its a story about a frog named Kermit who is discovered by Dom Deluise and tells him to find fame and fortune in hollywood. Along the path to stardom, Kermit discovers a sinster plot by a man who wants to make him famous in another way. Frog Legs Restuarant wants him as their spokesman. Kermit declines and is joined by a bunch of wayward friends like Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Dr. Teeth and his band, Bunsen and Beeker and more. This is a great soundtrack full of warmth and humor.
