Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger

Sinbad and Eye of the Tiger
A wonderful fantasy with Ray Harryhousen effects and a mystical feel to the film. The basic plot of the film is to break a spell that has been placed on Kassim (Damien Thomas) - the brother to his lady love (Jane Seymour), Sinbad (Patrick Wayne) embarks on a journey to get help from a wizard to break the curse. Along the way though a sorceress named Xenoba, who placed the curse on Kassim tries to stop them. The adventure is full of Ray Harryhausen stop motion action and it had a really excellent soundtrack by Roy Budd.

The soundtrack from Amazon was for Sinbad: The Eye of the Tiger Soundtrack

This was an expensive soundtrack to even find.

There was no ITunes link I could locate but I did find some great Youtube clips.

Here is the first...

The next one is from a fight in the movie.

And finally one more clip...

I know it says the 7th Voyage of Sinbad, but it really isn't.

That's all this week. Next Week The Hobbit (The Animated Movie) See ya then!

Damnation Alley

Damnation Alley
What is Damnation Alley? It's a postapocalyptic film about three guys who go across the desert in a suped up Recreational Vehicle. The film seems to drag in places. There is a lot of jive talk and the token black guy doesn't die. It's an adventure though and lots of fun. I enjoyed this when I watched it and the music is attuned to the time. The 1970's seemed to have a very grim view of the future and it was carried over in this movie. The score was done by Jerry Goldsmith. One of my favorite composers next to John Williams. He was doing scores for a variety of films and it showed by his talent.

Here is the link to some music that had Damnation Alley on it...It is Called Frontiers by Amazon.com

Here is the ITunes Link to Frontiers: Classic Science Fiction Themes

Also now here are some Youtube videos that you should enjoy...

First we have the Introduction

Here is another clip of the music from Damnation Alley

This was some unreleased music from that movie.

Well that is all for this week.

Wizards

Wizards...

This was truly a bizarre film of fantasy. I loved the animation in this movie and the music is truly unique. The music was by Andrew Belling and he had a truly innovative style for the year of 1977.
He helped shape the fantasy genre for films that came after this.  The plot of this movie helps us to see it was also a science fiction post apocalyptic film as well. In the movie two wizards are fighting, one of magic and the other of industrial machines. Earth was devasted by war and machines by Nuclear War. Those humans who remained wandered the wastelands battling mutants and the like.
There are true elves, dwarves and fairies who live in peace, but the queen of the fairies gives birth to two wizards, these grow up two different ways. Avatar and Blackwolf become two different people. Avatar befriends a woman named Elinore and they become close. Avatar journeys with her and they find Blackwolf who is evil. Avatar kills Blackwolf after tricking him that his mother had one last trick to show him when Blackwolf wasn't around. Blackwolf is shot and killed. The king of the fairies wants Avatar and Elinore to stay, but they decide to make their own kingdom where they are. It is a very cool film and here are some highlights from the score.

You won't find it on Amazon or ITunes, its a really hard score to locate, but enjoy it from YouTube.

This is called Time Will Tell, its sung by Susan Anton

War Against Peace

Moving Out

Fairy Attack

Weehawk finds Elinore.

Anyway this is just some highlights. Hope you enjoy it.
Next Week Damnation Alley. See ya then!

Pete's Dragon

Pete's Dragon
Once again Disney does a live action with animation movie way before its time. This film was about a boy named Pete who was running away from dirty, evil people who wanted to use him as a slave. Pete gets the help of a Dragon who can turn invisible. They escape to a town called Passamaquaty, yes the name is hard to say as the villian in the movie says so in song. This movie has Mickey Rooney, Red Buttons, and Helen Reddy. Its a fun musical romp and for any Disney fans the music says it all. Do you want some examples? Well first I will provide links where you can buy the soundtrack.

Here is the Amazon link to Pete's Dragon The Original Soundtrack
